Racing returns to the Jindivick Hills this weekend when Drouin Speedway presents the annual ‘Moe Grain & Farm’ sponsored Standard Saloon feature race in which many of the state’s best drivers are entered to try to win the $800- first prize. This event is a re-scheduled event due to a wash out in April.
In previous seasons the race was through the dog leg and back onto the speedway however this year a new concept has been brought into play with the ‘Eliminator Cup’ format getting the thumbs up from drivers.
Each driver will race three heats to qualify in the top 16 cars for the feature. Sixteen cars will start the final for the first 8 laps with the bottom four cars after lap eight sent infield and the remaining 12 cars re-grid. Then at the completion of another 8 laps the last 4 of are removed and the remaining 8 cars re-grid to race for a final 12 laps with $800 up for first and $400 for second and trophies 1st to 3rd.
Entered are 24 cars including Standard Saloon legend Scott Whittle, New Victorian Champion David Cull, Leigh Gooding, Chris Whatmore and Michael Ardley, Ben Brighton, Victor Benson and Matt who have provided great Drouin Speedway action all season.
The Ladies Standard Saloon feature washed out a fortnight ago will also be run at this race meeting completing heats that were not completed at the wash out, then running a feature then racing during the day in a new set of heats for the normal club program.
Also on the program are the Melbourne Mini Sprints Club with their Lightning Sprints, Division 2 Hot Rods and Junior Standard Saloons.
Nominations are still open until Wednesday by calling Bruce Bullard on 0439 934 522. Competitors need to be in the pits by 10am and racing begins at 11am.
Prices for admission are $40 for a family of 2 adults and two kids between 12-16, $15- for Adult, $10 for Age/Invalid pensioner and kids 12-16yrs old
