Hot Rods & Super Six Cylinder Standard Saloons

Dean Thompson posted Wednesday January 28, 2009.

Drouin Speedway is the direction to head on Sunday the 1st of February if you want a good old dose of V8 speedway action with the SDAV Hot Rods and a sprinkling of 6 cylinder sedan action with the Standard Saloons annual ‘Riley Memorial’.

The ‘Thunder Down Under’ SDAV Hot Rod series has roared through Gippsland with rounds already at Nyora and Rosedale race tracks and now find themselves at local Maryknoll race driver Dean West’s home track. Dean should expect tough competition from Phil Jenkins the current Victorian champion, Alan Pitcher, Jason Kavanagh, Kali Hovey, Rod Smith and Ray Welsh amongst others.

The other feature race on the day is the Annual ‘Riley Memorial’ for six cylinder Standard Saloons. Cars are expected from surrounding Gippsland areas such as Nyora and Rosedale as well as home club Drouin. Terry & Bruce Bullard, Jarryd Hooper, Shane Ardley are some of the competitors to watch out for.

Also on the program is the Division 2 Hot Rods who return fresh on the back of a great victory at the last race meeting by John Dike Junior at his home race track. Rob Tatterson, Gordon Angus, Craig O’Connell and Gavin Allman will be back and other supports on the day include V8 Standard Saloons, Ladies and Junior Standards who have 12 entries and are proving a popular growing category at Drouin.

The race meeting is expected to finish by 3pm which gives travelling families ample time to get home before dark. It’s an exciting place to be on a Sunday afternoon so get down to Drouin where all competitors need to be in the pit enclosure by 10am with racing beginning at 11am.

Nominations are still being accepted by Mat on 0419321722

Prices for admission are $40 for a family of 2 adults and two kids between 12-16, $15- for Adult, $10 for Age/Invalid pensioner and kids 12-16yrs old.

The next race meeting is February 15th with the return of Crash & Bash along with the Nagambie Modifieds. Make sure you pencil this event in as the crowd is normally large and vocal when the smashing, crunching, door slammin’ lads and ladies from Crash & bash hit town.
