This Sunday backing up from last months superb race day at Drouin Speedway will be the West Gippsland Cup race meeting for all club divisions along with the visiting Grand Prix Midgets and the crowd favourites the Ace of Spades Vintage Sedan Club and just like last month it is sure to be a race meeting packed with action with something for everybody.
The Grand Prix Midgets are currently in a rebirth phase with much of their racing previously having been done at Rushworth and Wangaratta. The current club leadership has the division experiencing more race venues and they come to Drouin to run a round of their Masters Series and to win the West Gippsland Cup.
Australian & Victorian Champion Ash Booker is in the field as this season’s toughest competitor Lisa Chalcraft, Australia # 2 Garry Cassidy, Louis Rodriguez and Chris Fowler who all aim to take it up to the champion. Trevor Perry who is a regular behind the wheel of a Dirt Modified is also in the field.
The Ace of Spades Vintage Sedans has proven a popular regular division at Drouin. There is the Aggravator, the Inflictor, the Gnome and all behind the wheel and don’t forget the cars themselves from 34 Fords, Chevy Slopers and Herman the Munster Mobile.
The Division 2 Hot Rods and the Standard Saloons will be both completing their track championship series rounds final rounds. The Division 2 Hot Rods are ready to go after their recent Victorian title at Rosedale Speedway and the battle should be on between the drivers at the top of the points including Morwell racer Scott Laidlaw who is Victoria 2 and Victoria # 3 Andrew Galley from Cranbourne.
The Standard Saloons should see Trafalgar’s Leigh Gooding, Victor Benson, Jacob & Patrick Vuillermin and Pakenham’s Mark Miles continue their battle for the series win. The action has been close at the front of the field and it is still a series that 4 or 5 drivers can win on Sunday if the results go their way.
It is planned that the Ladies Standard Saloons will hold the Gippsland Zone title on Sunday which will double as the West Gippsland Cup if enough nominations are received and Junior 1200’s, Junior Standard Saloons and Open Sedans are all on the program also.
