Drouin Speedway held their first race meeting of the new season on the weekend of October 3rd with all the regular home track hero\u2019s back in their Standard Saloons along with this week\u2019s visiting racers from the Compact Speedcars and the Wingless Sprints.<\/p>\n
The Wingless Sprints who raced the night prior in Geelong will soon be a large category in Gippsland with some 20+ cars from the area now registered to race and will be back at Drouin later in the season. Proceedings got underway in the first heat with Ross Jarred taking the win ahead of hot favourite Dan Dubois and Bairnsdale\u2019s Gary Bowden.<\/p>\n
Travis Effern from Inverloch then stepped up to take the win in the second heat with Dubois and Bowden again in the running. The final heat for wingless saw Dubois finally tasting victory with Effern and Leongatha youngster Dayn Bentvelzen snatching a great third.<\/p>\n
For the all important feature race Dubois and Effern started off the front and when the race got underway it was Dubois leading early from Jarred and Effern and Jarred. Dubois who had been suffering mechanical gremlins soon lost the lead when his car stopped on the speedway midway through the bottom turns. He went to the back of the field and Effern hit the front and went on to win from Dubois who stormed back from the rear and Jarred.<\/p>\n
Compact Speedcars provided plenty of action with 62 year old John Gordon who was making a return, rolling over during hot laps. Whilst he was not badly injured his day was done. Former National champion Danny Stainer won both heats before storming away with the feature win ahead of Jason Crawford and Michael Dickson.<\/p>\n
In Standard Saloons Wayne Nelson took out the men\u2019s final after the first car across the line was disqualified for infringing upon the tyre thread rule. Jason Leonard from Dandenong was second with Paul Sheppard in third place.<\/p>\n
In Ladies Standards last year\u2019s club champion Anne Gooding from Moe was the first to record victory this season with Sonia Nelson and Mary-Anne Lowe filling in the minor placings and finally in Junior Standards Matt Nelson was a standout winner from Ryan Thomson and Brodie Montague.<\/p>\n
In VSC Open Sedans Wayne Nelson took his second win of the day with Sonia Nelson second and no other finishers.<\/p>\n
The next race meeting at Drouin will be November 14th with ASCF Juniors on the program for their \u2018Out & About\u2019 state series. Karts will return for their first visit of the season along with Standard Saloon Men\u2019s, Ladies and Juniors and VSC Open Sedans.<\/p>\n
