The Drouin Speedway Club recently held the annual end of season presentation night with a great night had by all in attendance to celebrate the success of its champion drivers and the efforts of its tireless club members.<\/p>\n
In awards for the Standard Saloon categories whom race at every meeting during the season there was a changing of the guard in the men\u2019s Standards this season with Ben Brighton being crowned the champion driver ahead of Leigh Gooding who has been dominant for some time, in third was Jared Gleeson. Jason Leonard and Rene Van Der Elst were fourth and fifth.<\/p>\n
In Ladies the better half in the Gooding relationship Anne Gooding, took the winners spoils as she out performed Tegan Bullard, Debbie Donaldson, Sonia Nelson and Cindy Drewery. The racing got better and more and more competitive through the season and the girls can\u2019t wait to do it all again when the next season begins.<\/p>\n
In Junior Standards teammates Matt Nelson & Sean Clegg took out the top two placings with Cameron Dike, Annalee Harrison & Travis Evans making up the top five. The junior category continues to increase in numbers and Drouin was delighted to hold the Victorian title this past season in which all club members performed strongly.<\/p>\n
Other category champions include Nick Hill in ASCF Sedans, Trish Dike in Division 2 Hot Rods, Peter Temby Senior Speedway Karts and joint winners Brodie Miles and Chris Temby in Junior Speedway Karts.<\/p>\n
The clubs \u2018Best presented\u2019 race car went to Paul Sheppard, the \u2018Most Consistent\u2019 driver to Joseph Lia and \u2018Best new driver\u2019 Ash England. Nick Hill was awarded \u2018Most improved\u2019 driver which he earned by finishing second in the 3 Litre Association state series point score contested over 10 events across Victoria.<\/p>\n
Appreciation awards were given to the many fantastic volunteers the club has that included Billy Barkby, Chris Leonard, Jacob Bentley, Patricia Bailey, Vicki Ballinger, Mick Mahoney, David Slater, Mick Shaw, Peter Gray, Jenny Saunders, Bert West, Adam Barkby, John Dike Snr, Bianca Lindell, Steve Hastings, Shane Ardley, Warwick McAfee, Allan Brown, Andrew Morris, Ed McLaren, Marie Bullard, Nick Hill, Margaret Bullard, Robert Hastings, Darren Skilton & Jo.<\/p>\n
The final two awards were the coveted \u2018Club Person of the year\u2019 which was awarded to Chris Leonard for his fantastic work on maintaining track machinery and doing the plumbing and any job that just needed to be done. The awarding of a life membership award to Dave Slater a wonderful volunteer who takes charge at the pit gate and with some after event rubbish collection which he also does at Bairnsdale and Nyora Speedways capped off a wonderful night.<\/p>\n
