A BIT OF THE OLD & A BIT OF THE NOW AT DROUIN SPEEDWAY THIS SUNDAY

This Sunday the 18th of January Drouin Speedway will once again be alive with the sound of the bump & grind and the hum of beautiful engines when the club returns for the first time since the Christmas break to entertain local motoring fans.

The VSC Classic Sprintcars & Vintage Super Modifieds are scheduled to compete on the program for fans who love open wheel racing whilst the Ace of Spades Club bring their old time sedans back to the popular venue for the old timers.

Whilst the vintage clubs entertain those in the older age bracket, the younger folk are not forgotten with the Open Standard Saloons, Ladies Standard Saloons, Junior Standard Saloons and Victorian Speedway Council Open Sedans where Division 2 Hot Rods, Sports Sedans & Unlimited Sedans can all run together.

The Vintage Sprintcars are not slow in getting around, they might be in chassis that are twenty five years old and they might have a couple rules to try and keep the drivers from wrecking other people’s cars, yet they still bring a smile to everybody’s faces as they get around and make some noise.
Likewise the Ace of Spades sedans, they use every inch of the race track & don’t even look like hitting the wall. Chev Slopers vs. T Model Fords, it’s a great spectacle.

The Open Sedans have nominations to hand from local hot shot Mick Evans through to Geelong & Moama registered competitors Shannon Burke & Joshua Brown throw in the ready to go regulars and it could be quite a good little battle for the Opens.

In Standard Saloons the action has been great this season with plenty of variation in the winners list. Morwell’s Shane Stewart gets back behind the wheel this weekend and he will be mixing it up with Mark Miles, Aaron Price & Ballarat racer Tim Hutchinson who is running strongly in the Victorian state aggregate so far this year.

The Ladies Standard Saloons last meeting continued on their great momentum this year with the field this meeting including the return of the current Victorian Champion Anne Gooding to do battle with Tegan Bullard & rookie Stephanie Evans who finished third in her first ever final last meeting. They are part of a good field of nominated racers that include Trish Dike who just might show everybody why she has been known as one of Gippsland’s best Speedway Lady racers.

In the Junior Standard Saloon division preparations for the coming Victorian title at Drouin Speedway has resulted in Cooper Cappellari coming all the way from the North East of Victoria to compete against Ally Morrison, Sean McNeil, Michael Suckling & the extremely hard to beat Ty Hutton. It’s tough to pick a winner in this race on Sunday no matter who you support.
